The cycling tours in Rome are one of the best ways to see the city. Here is the tour to explore the center of Rome and to see the most important monuments. I chose this route taking into consideration the traffic (it’s quite difficult to find way without traffic), the difficulty of the route (there are only 2 slopes) and your safety (dangerous routes are marked in red on the map below). I’s a ride of around 9 Km in the center of the city.
You start from Piazza di Spagna, but you could start from any other place of the route, and continue along Via del Babuino, turn right in Vicolo dell’Orto di Napoli: you are in front of the main door of the court-yard where the film Roman Holiday have been shot. Then continue along Via del Babuino as far as Piazza del Popolo. From here take via del Corso and when you are in Largo Goldoni, turn right in Via Fontanella Borgese, continue straight ahead (in Via di Monte Brianzo) and then take Via Zanardelli: you are in Piazza Navona. Get through the square and go to Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and when you reach Piazza della Cancelleria you are very close to Campo de’ Fiori where is the famous road market and to Piazza Farnese where is the French Embassy.
Going back to Corso Vittorio Emanuele, you arrive to Largo di Torre Argentina, Piazza dell’Aracoeli and Via del Teatro Marcello: there is a lot of traffic here so get off the bicycle and go on foot. Then from Piazza Venezia through Via dei Fori Imperiali just to the Colosseo it’s a very beautiful ride.
Go back through the same way and go to Via del Corso, paying attention. Go along Via del Corso and at the traffic light turn left in Via di Pietra (for pedestrian) and going over the Tempio di Adriano you reach the Pantheon.
From the Pantheon, through Piazza di Monte Citorio and Via del Tritone, you arrive to Fontana di Trevi. From there passing through Via dei Due Macelli, you are in Piazza di Spagna again.
Several companies hire out bikes and some of them take the bike to your hotel. Maybe you wonder which is the best period for cycling tours in Rome. I think quite all the year, because except some days, we have mild winters. However from march to October is the best period indeed.
