Beach near Rome

The beach near Rome is not the beautiful beach of the South of Italy, but it exists and it is only 30 kilometers from Rome. If you choose the summer for spending your holidays in Rome, a day of refreshment at the seaside could be very healthy. Of course I’m talking about Ostia, that is geographically the beach near Rome and easily accessible by public transports. There are bathing establishments with or without swimming pool, public beaches, bars, restaurants and shops.

I think that reaching the beach by public transports is very important: you can take the B line to Laurentina and stop at Piramide (you can also stop at Basilica di San Paolo and Eur Magliana), here you take the Roma-Lido train to Cristoforo Colombo and stop at Lido Centro or Stella Polare or Castel Fusano or Cristoforo Colombo. All the stops are along the beach. 

In front of Piazzale Magellano there are two well equipped public beaches, Curvone and Spiagetta, and you have to stop at Stella Polare to reach them, while if you stop at Lido Centro you can reach Punta Ovest beach at Lungomare Duca degli Abruzzi. All the other public beaches aren’t equipped: the one in front of piazza dei Canotti near Plinius establishment; the Canale dei Pescatori between the ditch and the Lega Navale establishment, here the sea is dirty; SPQR public beach in via Amerigo Vespucci; the Faber Beach in Lungomare Toscanelli; from the Faber Beach to the Porto turistico di Ostia; the Cancelli are 6 public beaches that you can reach by bus: take the numbers 07 – 061 – 070 at Cristoforo Colombo train stop.

Then in the evening, if you are not far from the center of Ostia, at 20 minutes walk  from Lungomare Toscanelli in Via Danilo Stiepovich, there is Da Zi’ Checco restaurant where you can have a very good fish dinner and not only. As you are using public transports, don’t be late because you have to consider the timetable of metro and train so take the train at Lido Centro stop at 20 minutes walk from the restaurant.
